Unter dem Motto „Dialoge zwischen Vergangenheit und Zukunft“ präsentieren wir von November bis Dezember 2025 eine Auswahl herausragender Filme aus dem chinesischsprachigen Raum.

Die Filmreihe zeigt aktuelle Produktionen und zeitlose Klassiker, die Einblicke in Geschichte, Kultur und Gegenwart Chinas ermöglichen. Alle Vorführungen sind kostenlos und finden im Méliès Kino sowie im ZHG der Universität Göttingen statt.

Call for Papers for a Special Collection in the journal Global Perspectives: The Politics of (Dis)Engagement: Exploring Citizens’ Passivity and Activation in Non-Democratic Contexts
|
|
|
We seek to explore questions related to political passivity by bringing together case studies on various world regions and different types of authoritarian and hybrid regimes.
|
- Causes, forms, and consequences of political passivity under non-democratic rule.
- Use of mass mobilization and citizen-activation tactics in authoritarian and hybrid regimes: causes, organizational forms, and effects on public opinion.
- Political passivity and the role of gender, class, education, etc.
- Political passivity and mass mobilization in times of war and peace.
- Historical legacies in current forms of passivity and mobilizational tactics.
- State discourses on passivity and ideological claims.

Please submit an abstract of up to 300 words as well as a title and a short personal biography (about 150 words) by December 31, 2025.

In this interview, Viren Murthy reflects on how Chinese and Japanese thinkers of the twentieth century responded to capitalist modernity and imperialism by reimagining “Asia” as a political and philosophical concept. Drawing connections between Pan-Asianist thought and European philosophy, Murthy revisits Hegel’s provocative claim that Asia lacks historical subjectivity and explores how intellectuals such as Takeuchi Yoshimi turned the idea of Asia into a symbol of anti-imperialist resistance. The Göttingen China Workshop on Globalization and Development brought together scholars from universities in China and Germany to discuss current research on innovation, trade, and economic development.
|
|
Organized by Andreas Fuchs, Lei Li, Krisztina Kis-Katos, and Xiaohua Yu, the two-day event featured presentations on technology innovation, environmental impacts of trade, and firm-level development.
|
|
The workshop fostered lively academic exchange and collaboration between participants from institutions such as the University of Göttingen, Sun Yat-sen University, Peking University, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
