The film\, which co-stars John Saxon and Jim Kelly\, was directed by Robert Clouse. It would be Bruce Lee’s final completed film appearance before his death on 20 July 1973 at age 32. \nEnter the Dragon is considered to be one of the greatest martial arts films of all time. In 2004\, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant”. Among the first films to combine martial arts action with the emerging Blaxploitation genre\, its success led to a series of similar productions combining both genres. Chai blames air pollution for the tumour. The film\, which combines footage of a lecture with interviews and factory visits\, has been compared with Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth in both its style and likely impact. And it’s to the West that small-town dance instructor Shen Tao (played by Jia’s muse Zhao Tao) looks when she spurns the shy\, introverted labourer Liangzi (Liang Jindong) to marry the slick entrepreneur Zhang (Zhang Yi). The couple soon welcomes a son\, whom Zhang names Dollar — though if he could have seen only a few years into the future\, he would surely have christened him Renminbi. The first theatrical performance in the PRC was translated and directed by Professor Ai Xiaoming of Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou) in 2003; since then enactments of ‘The Vagina Monologues’ (in Chinese ‘来自阴道’ lit. ‘from the vagina’)\, at times banned and partly censored\, have taken over university campuses\, theatres\, cafes\, villages\, streets and public transport.\n(Source:shadesofnoir.org.uk)\n\n\n\n\nAbout the director:\nFan Popo is a queer filmmaker\, writer and activist. Born in 1985\, he graduated from the Beijing Film Academy. He published “Happy Together: Complete Record of a Hundred Queer Films”. His documentary works include: New Beijing\, New Marriage\, Mama Rainbow\, The VaChina Monologues and other works. He has participated in international film festivals in Taipei\, Copenhagen\, Los Angeles\, Mumbai and other places. In 2012 he received the Prism Prize of the 22nd Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival\, and was invited to join the jury of MixCopenhagen in 2014. DESCRIPTION:Film Series:\nFood is People’s Heaven\n民以食为天\nWedensday\, 4pm (c.t.)\nKWZ 1.601\nLecturer: Katja Pessl\n \nThe Film Series at the Department of East Asian Studies provides an engaging and flexible study experience\, intended to introduce students to a wide scope of East Asian films. Each semester features a specific topic with 6-7 screenings and provides ample opportunity for participants to discover\, analyze and argue about film. Our screenings are followed by a moderated discussion and all students are welcome to participate!\nIn this semester’s film cycle we will focus on the deep-rooted connections between food and society.
