DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: Sprechende Steine – Ur- und frühgeschichtliche Gesellschaften Zentralasiens im Spiegel ihrer Felszeichnungen\nZeit: 18 bis 20 Uhr\nOrt: KWZ 0.607 \nDie Völker Zentralasiens hinterließen über die Jahrtausende einen überaus reichen Fundus von schriftlosen Steindenkmälern\, die nicht nur aufgrund ihres künstlerischen Ausdrucks\, sondern vor allem auch aufgrund der Rückschlüsse\, die wir auf die damaligen Gesellschaften ziehen können\, von hohem Interesse für uns sind. \n  \nAufgrund der Ausbreitung frühzeitlicher archäologischer Kulturen können wir auch die Wanderungsbewegungen ethnischer Gruppen in Zentralasien zu mindestens andeutungsweise erahnen. Grundsätzlich gesehen haben wir seit der Jungsteinzeit (ca. 8000 bis 3550 v.Chr.) und dann vor allem in der Bronzezeit (ca. 3500 bis 1000 v.Chr.) und frühen Eisenzeit eine West-Ost Bewegung aus den Gebieten der Schwarzmeersteppen und der heutigen Türkei bis hin zum Altai-Gebiet\, Sinkiang und dem westlichen indischen Subkontinent. Indogermanische Sprachen wie Sogdisch entlang der Seidenstraße\, Tocharisch in Sinkiang oder Sanskrit in Indien\, die bis in historische Zeit nachweisbar sind\, sowie Mumien aus den Eiskurganen des mongolischen und russischen Altai sowie Trocken-Mumien aus der Wüste Taklamakan in Sinkiang zeugen hiervon. Aber auch die Darstellung von Wagen auf bronzezeitlichen Petroglyphen Zentralasiens. Die „indogermanischen“ Skythen besaßen von Pferden gezogene Streitwagen und eroberten weite Teile Zentralasiens. Der „skythisch-sakische Kulturraum“ erstreckte sich bis nach Südsibirien und die westliche Mongolei und dominiert diese Region bis in die Zeit um Christi Geburt. \nDie Hsiung-nu\, die vom 3. Jh. v.Chr. bis zum 1.Jh. n.Chr. ihre Steppenreiche im östlichen Zentralasien bauten und die wahrscheinlich nicht mit Atillas Hunnen verwandt waren\, lassen sich ethnisch nicht eindeutig zuordnen. Nach dem Untergang der Hsiung-nu begannen alttürkische Stämme wie die Rouran (Juan Juan) und die Tabgatch (Tuoba Hsien-bi) die heutige Mongolei und angrenzende Gebiete zu beherrschen. Eine türkisch-mongolische Gegenbewegung von Ost nach West nimmt in dieser Zeit ihren Anfang. Die ältesten turksprachigen Steininschriften in der alttürkischen Runenschrift aus dem 5. bis 8.Jh. n.Chr. finden sich in der Mongolei\, Kirgisien\, Kasachstan und Südsibirien. \nDie typischen anthropomorphen Steinstelen („Balbal“) in den zentralasiatischen Steppen werden als Grabfiguren der frühmittelalterlichen alttürkischen Völker verstanden. Ihre Wurzeln lassen sich jedoch bis in die Steinzeit oder doch mit einer klaren Entwicklungslinie als Figuren auf Grab- und Opferstätten bis in die spätbronzezeitlichen Kulturen der Hirschsteine und der eisenzeitlichen „skythischen“ Kurgane zurückverfolgen. Diese „Balbals“ zeigen uns Kleidung und Haartracht\, Schmuck\, Waffen und religiöse Symbole der Völker\, die sie repräsentieren\, zunächst in stark abstrahierter Form auf  Hirschsteinen und dann in recht realistischen\, plastischen Darstellungen in der frühmittelalterlichen Periode. Mit der Ankunft des Islam in Zentralasien verschwinden menschenähnliche Darstellungen. \nDiese Ausstellung zeigt Petroglyphen vor allem der Bronze- und Eisenzeit\, Hirschsteine der Bronzezeit und frühmittelalterliche Stelen in Menschenform\, alle als Reflektion der menschlichen Gesellschaft in schriftlosen Kulturen\, die sich über die Jahrtausende anhand dieses kontemporären Bildmateriales darstellen läßt. Im Lichtbildervortrag werden wichtige Fundstätten in der Mongolei\, Kirgisien und Kasachstan vorgestellt. Feb. 2020\, 16:00 – 18:00\nVenue: KWZ 0.701\n \nAbstract:\nIt is hard to imagine a meeting between Chinese and Indian leaders without any cultural program or context: while Xi Jinping took the Indian Prime Minister\, Narendra Modi\, to the famous Terracotta Warriors site in Xi’an\, Modi invited him back to a Hindu temple built in the 8th century in Mamallapuram. During these visits both leaders talked about the common Chinese-Indian heritage\, as well as the peaceful and tolerant character of their historical relations.\nTo what extent is this Chinese-Indian „civilizational discourse“ based on facts\, and to what extent is it a form of narrative manipulation? What is the meaning behind all these sublime references to civilizational heritage? Who are all these words and gestures really directed at\, and what are they supposed to achieve? We cordially invite you to a lecture dedicated to uncovering the hidden meanings of the „civilizational discourse“ in contemporary Chinese-Indian relations. \nShort bio:\nAntonina Luszczykiewicz\, PhD\, is a faculty member of the Institute of the Middle and Far East at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. SUMMARY:The Chinese Theater in Goettingen
DESCRIPTION:The Chinese Theater in Goettingen\nThe Chinese Theater in Goettingen is a Chinese-language amateur theater group founded in summer 2019. Most members are Chinese students\, but the group also includes research fellows\, German students learning Chinese language at the University of Goettingen\, and professionals working in the city of Goettingen. Dr. Yumin Ao acts as the coordinator. She is a researcher at the Gobal and Transregional Studies Platform\, and her research interests focus on Chinese drama and cross-cultural theater. A team of volunteers take charge of operation\, dramaturgy\, technique and media of the theater group. Members meet every three weeks to read plays or to make staged readings of plays written by Chinese playwrights\, for instance The Greatest Event in Life\, The Rhinoceros in Love\, and the Comical History of the Life of Dr. Faustus\, etc. \n\n\n\nThe Chinese Theater in Goettingen wants to build friendly and inclusive spaces. Its purpose is to contribute to cross-cultural communication. Through staged readings and performances\, we encourage thinking about “selection bias in life” and “personal development” and to widen our horizons. We also want to rethink cultural identities in the global context. We believe that by expressing our ideas and positions in universal issues we can contribute to clarifying problems of finding one’s identity and can suggest possible solutions. DESCRIPTION:Welche Bedeutung hat der von China geplante internationale Handelskorridor? Eine Einordnung aus historischer\, politikwissenschaftlicher sowie wirtschafts- und sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive am 12. Mai 2020 beim Herrenhäuser Forum in Hannover. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMit einer modernen Seidenstraße will China seine Vormachtstellung im Handel festigen.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKamelkarawanen\, die Seide\, Wolle\, Gold und Silber transportieren – das sind die ersten Assoziationen\, die viele mit der “Seidenstraße” verbinden\, die auch heute noch ein Hauch von Magie umweht. Als Ferdinand von Richthofen den Begriff 1877 prägte\, referierte er damit aber nicht nur auf das seit der Antike bestehende Netzwerk aus Handelsverbindungen für den Transport kostbarer Güter. Er bezog “Seidenstraße” auch auf den damit einhergehenden kontinuierlichen Austausch von Ideen und Technik sowie die Interaktion von Religionen und Kulturkreisen entlang des über 6.000 Kilometer umfassenden Wegenetzes. \nSeit 2013 befeuert die Volksrepublik China unter Staatspräsident Xi Jinping die Vorstellung einer Seidenstraßenrenaissance. “One Belt – One Road” heißt das Mammutprojekt\, mit dem China seine Vormachtstellung im Handel mit derzeit 64 Staaten festigen will. Wie definiert China seine handelspolitischen Ziele über die Neue Seidenstraße? Welche Chancen und Risiken birgt das Vorhaben für Europa? Hat die neue Seidenstraße auch eine ideelle und kulturelle Dimension? The main purpose is to understand how they perceive their attachment to China politically\, culturally and ethnically and how the perception gradually changed after their experiences in Germany\, where they have learnt and developed different strategies to negotiate their identity and belonging. The study applies a combination of longitudinal method and the method of the biographical narrative interview which tracks 25 Chinese students’ lived experiences and processes of their change from their first semester until after they graduate from Germany\, in order to capture critical moments of their transitions. The dissertation provides longitudinal evidence to reveal the complex and multilayered nature of the changing progress of these students’ identity and also supports that students’ transcultural experiences in Germany which helped them “unlearn” a normalized concept of “Chineseness” assisted them to go beyond their state-bound national loyalty and postulate a potential transcultural position in today’s world. \n  \nShort Bio:\nI was born in Deyang\, Sichuan and obtained both my bachelor’s and master’s degree at Sichuan University. I studied applied linguistics and bilingual education in Chengdu\, New York\, Uppsala and Goettingen. Before coming to Goettingen for my PhD program\, I taught Chinese to international students at Sichuan University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu.

SUMMARY:Online Lecture: Affective pedagogic spaces in contemporary China

July. 2020\, 6:00 p.m.\nVenue: Zoom\n \n  \nThrough the influence of psychotherapeutic expertise and popular entertainment\, pedagogic programs for “self-improvement” in China today define positive affect as a key aspect of learning. In this talk\, based on participant observations in the city of Jinan\, I describe how workshops for interpersonal skills produce interactive spaces that spark enthusiasm and optimism in participants. These pedagogies draw on the current primacy of “positive energy” (zheng nengliang) in Chinese education\, media\, and politics. I will discuss how these interactive spaces resemble group interactions from the communist period\, while today positive affect is positioned more as an endpoint in separation from ordinary life and collective enterprises. \nGil Hizi (PhD University of Sydney) is a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow of Anthropology at the University of Cologne. He studies social change in China by focusing on perceptions of personhood and emotions. His main sites of enquiry have been pedagogic practices of self-improvement and psychotherapy.
