Meet Our Researchers: Dr. Maryia Danilovich

Dr. Maryia Danilovich joined the Centre for Modern East Asian Studies as a guest in November 2020 and is a guest reseacher since April 2021. She holds a PhD (2015), obtained for her thesis on China’s foreign policy in Central Asia. Her background in Chinese Studies allowed her, as a part of her doctoral research, to conduct fieldwork in China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Prior to joining the University of Göttingen, she was an EEGA postdoctoral fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography (2021), a Swedish Institute postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Uppsala University (2018-2019), and a guest researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (2019). At the same time, she has been co-developing a Digital Humanities Platform for comprehensive analysis and mapping of China`s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and presenting at research centres and think-tanks in Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and China. She organised and convened an international conference ‘China’s BRI and a New Era of Transcultural Networks?’ held at Uppsala University in May 2019. Her teaching experience includes working as an Associate Professor in International Relations at the Belarusian State University.

Maryia Danilovich’s main research areas are China’s foreign policy and the implementation of China`s BRI in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
