Meet our Researchers: Miaoning Sun (Winter Term 2025/2026 - Summer Term 2026)

Sun Miaoning is a Ph.D. candidate in Classical Chinese Philology at the School of Liberal Arts, Nanjing University. She received her M.A. from the Centre for East Asian Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before her doctoral studies, she worked as an editor and journalist at Social Sciences in China Press, and she is currently also a lecturer at Nanjing Vocational College of Information Technology.

Her research focuses on the religious and intellectual history of China. During her visit in Göttingen, she is conducting research on the intellectual history of late Qing scholars, with particular attention to archival materials related to Cai Yuanpei’s study experience in Germany. In addition, she is pursuing a parallel research project on Manichaean materials preserved in Germany and collaborating with local scholars in this field.She is currently exploring the interactions and transmissions among multiple religious traditions.
