Congratulations to our member of the Center of East Asian Studies (CeMEAS), Prof. Dr. Xiaoming Fu, on being elected as a member of the National Academy of Science and Engineering.

Computer scientist Prof. Dr. Xiaoming Fu from the University of Göttingen has been elected as a member of the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). This recognition honors his research in the fields of Networked Systems, Mobile, Cloud, and Edge Computing, as well as Big Data. As a member of acatech, Fu will join a network of scientists committed to advancing scientific knowledge and addressing the challenges of our time.

Fu earned his Ph.D. in 2000 from Tsinghua University in Beijing and began his career at the Technical University of Berlin. In 2002, he joined the newly established Institute of Computer Science at the University of Göttingen as an assistant professor, where he leads the Computer Networks Group. In 2007, he was appointed full professor of computer science.

Fu’s research addresses pressing issues in information and communication technologies, focusing particularly on mobile edge computing, information-centric networking, and social computing, which impact everything from the telecommunications and computer industries to civil society. He is an IEEE Fellow, ACM Distinguished Member, member of the Academia Europaea, co-founder and chair of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society Germany Chapter, and former chair of the IEEE Communications Society’s Technical Committee on the Internet.
