Dr. Haifeng SHANG is a tenured associate professor at The Education University of Hong Kong. Born in Beijing, he earned his Ph.D. from Nanjing University. He has served as associate head of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies at EdUHK, as a senior research scholar at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, and as a postdoctoral fellow at Academia Sinica in Taiwan. He has also been invited to several leading institutions as an academic visitor, including Harvard University in the US, the University of Tokyo in Japan, Sungkyunkwan University in Korea, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Göttingen in Germany. Dr. Shang is the principal investigator of three Research Grants Council-funded projects on the Song Dynasty’s literati, including Su Shi and Huang Tingjian, and on the religious idea of “Perfect Enlightenment” in East Asian art and literature. He is the author of two books: Sutra of Perfect Enlightenment: A New Translation (2021) and Two Encyclopedias of Incense from the Northern Song (2023).
